Nonprofit work

Reallocate was a small nonprofit I ran as Executive Director in 2013 and 2014, unpaid and all-volunteer. Its output was a series of events we called hacktivations: hackathons that paired nonprofits who needed technical work with engineers, designers and marketers willing to do it pro bono. The last of them was the catalyst for getting the freespace lease signed.

Watch Duty was founded by three people I had worked with at Zenput — John Mills, Brian Harris and Dave Merritt — and I was living with them while they were getting it off the ground. I contributed to the early codebase, and came back in 2024 for a stint of paid engineering work. I don't work on it any more; they are still friends, and it is the piece of software on this page most likely to matter to somebody on a bad day.
