Adam Keeton is building an alien plant garden. I volunteered to build the prototype that showed what its movement could be.

The motion is driven by software-controlled linear actuators, aiming at something between an alien cordyceps and a cephalopod — the specific unsettling quality of a thing that moves as though it wants something. I designed and 3D printed every part of the mechanism and wrote the baseline control architecture that drove it.

The prototype has since been broken apart for parts, which is the correct end for it. It was never meant to be the piece. It existed so that Adam could stand in front of the movement and decide whether it was the movement he wanted, and he has taken the work several stages further since.
